Robotics at the Univeristy of New Haven

Research, competition, and community for builders, coders, and curious minds.

About Us

We are a student-driven robotics community focused on research, competition teams, and hands-on learning. From autonomous navigation to human-robot interaction, we collaborate across majors to design, build, and test real-world robotic systems.

What We Do

Research labs, competition teams, and outreach programs that connect theory with practice.

Who Can Join

Open to all experience levels and majors—mentorship and workshops help you ramp up fast.

How We Work

Small, focused teams with shared resources, code reviews, and regular build sessions.

Research Projects

Risk Aware Navigation

Using vibration sensors to determine risk levels in robot navigation.

Manipulation & Grasping

Teaching a robot to grasp fragile objects without crushing them.s

Community

Build a better future for robotics, one small step at a time. We volunteer, mentor, and host events that bring STEM to local schools.

VEX Competition Volunteering

We help run the regional VEX competitions—recruiting campus volunteers, building fields, resetting matches, queueing teams, and keeping everything running smoothly.

  • Field building and reset crews
  • Team queueing and pit communication
  • Event setup, teardown, and logistics

Robotics Club

The Robotics Club is open to students of all experience levels. Members work on hands-on projects, learn new tools, and collaborate on competitions and outreach.

  • Weekly build and design sessions
  • Workshops on ROS, CAD, electronics, and control systems
  • Team-based project development
  • Outreach and demonstrations

URC Mars Rover Team

Our URC (University Rover Challenge) team designs and builds a Mars-style rover to compete in international competitions. The rover is engineered for autonomous navigation, science operations, and remote task execution.

Mechanical

Chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and manipulator systems.

Electrical

Power systems, embedded hardware, sensors, and communications.

Software

Autonomy, teleoperation, perception, and system integration.

Meet Our Advisor

Our faculty advisor keeps projects on track, connects us with industry partners, and ensures safety, mentorship, and academic alignment for every build.

  • Guidance on project scopes, budgets, and timelines
  • Best practices for lab safety, testing, and documentation
  • Connections to faculty research, grants, and industry mentors
